On what turned out to be one of the hottest weekends of the summer eight members of EFFD sweat through the heat while sharpening their confined space rescue skills at Somerset County Fire Academy. The three day class began by covering CS Awareness on Friday night as well as basic rescue knots. The following two days were all hands on covering CS Operations. On Saturday firefighters worked on setting up ropes and rigging in various situations preparing and equipping rescuers as well as packaging patients. Sunday brought all these skills together in three separate scenarios including a two story elevator shaft rescue simulated manhole rescue and a tanker truck rescue. Because of the small class size everyone was able to take turns and get hands on practice with each element of the process from running the incident setting up the lines spotting the rescuers and of course being the tunnel rat.
