Close Call involving a Garbage Truck with the Garbage on Fire inside of the Truck at 621 Hamilton Street

On Friday, April 24th, 2020 at approximately 0902 hours, Franklin Twp. Fire District #3 was dispatched to 621 Hamilton Street, for the garbage truck that dumped the pile of garbage it was carrying in the Nora Plaza Parking Lot, due to a subsequent fire starting inside the back of truck.

Car 273 arrived and established command of the incident, reporting no exposure issues from the pile of garbage that was catching fire. Car 27 had operations of the incident.

Engine 27 arrived and stretched a 1 inch and 3/4 attack line, utilizing foam to knockdown the fire. Engine 251 arrived and assisted with extinguishment efforts by pulling a second 1 inch and 3/4 attack line off Engine 27 and feeding Engine 27 from their water tank.

Franklin Twp. Department of Public Works responded with a backhoe to the fire scene and provided assistance to the units operating.

After the fire was knocked down, units spent some time overhauling the large pile of garbage with the assistance of the backhoe.

Total operational time was under one hour. Additional units on the scene were Car 274, Ladder 27, and Deputy 25. All units cleared without incident at approximately 0957 hours.
