On Tuesday, May 12th, 2020 at approximately 11:59 hours, Franklin Twp. Fire District #3 was dispatched to 503 Hamilton Street, for an Activated Fire Alarm. Somerset County Communications advised responding units that there was work taking place on the roof and the company was attempting to cancel the transmission of the alarm.
Car 273 and Ladder 27 arrived simultaneous, Car 273 established command. Interior crews reported an odor of smoke in the building and located a smoldering Fire. Car 273 turned over command to Chief 27 at that time and assisted with the interior operation.
The crew from Ladder 25 opened up the roof at the rear of the structure at the gutter line, and began to extinguish the fire from the rear. A/C 27 and Ladder 27 checked for extension on the interior, accessed the attic area at the back of the store and extinguished the remainder of the fire from the interior.
Total operational time was approximately 30 minutes, at which time the fire was completely extinguished and overhauled. Engine 27 stood by on-scene and remained available for additional calls.
The scene was turned over to Franklin Twp. Fire Prevention and all units cleared at approximately 12:40 hours.
