Container Fire – Churchill Avenue

Today at 8:24 AM, Franklin Fire District 3 was dispatched to the area of the Franklin DPW on Churchill Avenue for a reported container fire. FF M. Smegocki who works for the DPW called on location and gave a size up over the radio of a closed type of container on fire in the extra parking lot of Somerset Auto Salvage.
Engine 253 arrived and pulled a hand line and started to work on the side of the container that was now to be a confirmed sand blaster / dust collector. The inside filters and dust were burning from a welder.
Ladder 27 and Car 27 arrived and the top doors were removed and Ladder 27 operated over the top of the machine and extinguished the bulk of the fire. After a few tanks of water shuttle, the owner was requested to take the unit apart to extinguish the smoldering filters inside, a hand line was used. Units on scene were Car 27, Car 274, L-27, Squad 27, E251, E253, TR 25 and FM8H.
Units were on scene for about 1 hr 50 min.
