On Monday November 12th, 2018 at approximately 07:59 hours, Fire District #3 was dispatched to 1407 Hamilton Street for a possible Structure Fire called in through Franklin PD, by East Franklin FF Elvin Motta , who noticed the smoke on his way to work coming from the house.
Car 272 (Capt. Daughton) arrived, established command and confirmed a working fire, subsequently requested a 2nd Alarm. Car 27 (Chief Krushinski) arrived shortly after and assumed command, while Capt. Daughton took on operations.
Ladder 27 was first due and stretched a hand line into the structure. Ladder 25 arrived 2nd Due, split the crews and performed search, as well as placed ground ladders around the building. Engine 253 arrived 3rd and established a water supply, feeding Ladder 27 from the hydrant. 2 hand lines were stretched into the Structure and crews from Ladder 27, Engine 27 and New Brunswick Eng. 5 worked vigorously to find the fire.
Engine 27 and Ladder 27 forced entry into a door which lead into a crawl space, finding heavy fire conditions on the 1st floor. The crews were able to contain the fire to the crawl space area, with slight extension into the walls of the 2nd floor and walls in the attic space.
Total operational time was approximately 1 hour and 45 mins. Franklin Twp. Fire Prevention was notified and responded to the scene. Additional companies on scene were Air 27, Car 25, New Brunswick Ladder 1, North Brunswick Co. 2 and Somerset FD.
Standby companies covering the District included Bound Brook, Finderne, Elizabeth Avenue and Middlebush. Thank you to all who assisted on the scene and covered the Fire District.
