On Tuesday September 3rd, 2019 at approximately 1536 hours, Fire District #3 was dispatched to the intersection of State Route 27 and Churchill Avenue, for a Motor Vehicle Collision involving a pole, with the vehicle possibly on fire.
Car 27 arrived and established command of the incident, reporting that he located a female unconscious behind the wheel, with no pulse and was not breathing. She was initially trapped within the vehicle, but the vehicle was not on fire.
FM-8H who was driving by the scene at the time stopped to assist Chief 27. Car 273 arrived shortly after, at which time it was determined a Rapid Extrication of the patient was needed, in order to render appropriate medical aid. Chief 27 was able to break the window on the passenger side, at which time A/C 27 and Chief 27 extricated the patient from the passenger side. A/C 27 and FM-8H began to perform CPR on the driver of the vehicle, while awaiting EMS to arrive.
Squad 27 arrived and immediately assisted in CPR, by rotating out members and secured the collision scene as appropriate, while coordinating with Franklin Twp. Police. Once RWJUH EMS arrived, A/C 27 secured an airway while crews from Squad 27 continued CPR efforts with ALS and BLS from Robert Wood Johnson. Rescue 25 also assisted with patient care on the scene.
The driver of the vehicle was turned over to RWJUH EMS and transported to the Hospital for further treatment and evaluation. The scene remains under investigation and was turned over to Franklin Twp. Police. Thank you to all who assisted on scene. Total on-scene time was approximately 3 hours, at which time all units were cleared.
