On November 18th and 19th of 2017, members of Fire District #3 attended Confined Space Operations training at the Somerset County Emergency Services Training Academy in Hillsborough, NJ.
On Saturday, the instructors refreshed everyone on various ropes and knots that would be used in a confined space situation. The firefighters then used those knots and created hauling systems, practicing different anchor points and methods to raise and lower persons.
On Sunday, firefighters were given two separate scenarios they had to work through. One was removal of a downed worker from a vertical position. The second was removal of a downed worker from a horizontal position. The firefighters from both companies worked together wonderfully and did a great job in each scenario.
Thank you to the instructors at SCESTA, for passing on your knowledge to us and allowing us to grow as better trained firefighters. The members of Station 25 and 27 who attended the drill did an excellent job and are now better prepared for this type of situation should it arise.
