On Friday September 20th, 2019 at approximately 0025 hours, Franklin Twp. Fire District #3 was dispatched to 24 Oakland Avenue, for a reported Structure Fire.
Car 252 arrived on scene, established command and reported smoke showing from the structure. Engine 27 was the 1st Due apparatus and stretched 2 attack lines into the building, in an effort to extinguish the fire. Car 27 arrived, assumed command and A/C 25 took on operations. A 2nd Alarm was struck for box 2501, bringing Somerset as a R.I.T. to the scene, along with North Brunswick Co. #3 for 1 Engine and 1 Truck.
Ladder 25 arrived and stretched a 3rd attack line into the structure, as the crew from Engine 27 reported heavy fire at the rear of the garage area. Engine 253 arrived and sent their manpower up to assist with the operation.
Once the fire was in the process of being knocked down, the crew from Ladder 27 assisted by ventilating the building. All crews worked vigorously together, to ensure the fire did not extend from the garage area.
Crews then checked the remainder of the building for any extension of the fire, which was negative. Extensive Overhaul was then completed by all the crews on scene and the fire was placed under control in approximately 45 minutes.
Total operational time was approximately 3 hours. Additional units on the scene were Car 274, Squad 27, Air 27, Deputy 25, Engine 251, Somerset Rescue 56, North Brunswick Engine 303 and Truck 3.
Standby companies included Bound Brook Squad 23 and Finderne Engine 301. The scene was turned over to Franklin Twp. Fire Prevention and remains under investigation.
Thank you to all those who responded to the scene and also ensured Fire District #3 was covered during the operation.
